Reasons for damage to deep groove ball bearings

发布日期:2025-01-14

Deep groove ball bearings are precision parts, and only some of them are damaged in actual applications. There are many reasons for most bearing failures - loads exceeding the original estimate, ineffective sealing, too small bearing clearance caused by over-tight fit, etc. Any of these factors has its own special damage mode and will leave special damage marks. Therefore, by examining the bearings of the damaged shaft, the possible causes can be found in most cases. Generally speaking, one-third of bearing damage is caused by fatigue damage, another one-third is caused by poor lubrication, and the other one-third is caused by contaminants entering the bearing or improper installation. However, these damage types are also related to the industry. For example, in the pulp and paper industry, most of the damage to bearings is caused by poor lubrication or contamination rather than material fatigue. Bearings are precision parts, so they require a considerable degree of caution when used. Even if high-performance bearings are used, if they are not used properly, they cannot achieve the expected performance effect and are prone to bearing damage. Therefore, the following matters should be noted when using bearings:

1. Keep the bearings and their surroundings clean

Even tiny dust that is invisible to the naked eye enters the bearings, which will increase the wear, vibration and noise of the bearings.

2. Be careful when using and installing

Do not allow strong punching, hammering the bearings directly, or transmitting pressure through rolling elements.

3. Use appropriate and accurate installation tools

Try to use special tools and avoid using things such as cloth and short fibers. 4. Prevent rust on the bearings When taking the bearings directly with your hands, wash off the sweat on your hands and apply high-quality mineral oil before operating. Pay special attention to rust prevention in rainy seasons and summers.

However, under certain special operating conditions, the bearings can achieve a longer life than traditional calculations, especially under light loads. These special operating conditions are when the rolling surfaces (tracks and rolling elements) are effectively separated by a lubricating film and the surface damage that may be caused by contaminants is limited. In fact, under ideal conditions, so-called permanent bearing life is possible.

Deep groove ball bearing life:

The life of a ball bearing is defined by the number of revolutions (or the number of hours of operation at a certain speed): within this life, the bearing should have initial fatigue damage (peeling or defect) on any of its bearing rings or rolling elements. However, whether in laboratory tests or in actual use, it can be clearly seen that the actual life of bearings with the same appearance under the same operating conditions is very different. In addition, there are several different definitions of bearing "life", one of which is the so-called "working life", which means that the actual life that a bearing can achieve before damage is caused by wear and tear. Damage is usually not caused by fatigue, but by wear, corrosion, seal damage, etc.
